The Bylong Valley Way is a picturesque, fully sealed link between the Golden Highway (at Sandy Hollow) and the Castlereagh Highway (at Ilford). It is part of the Greater Blue Mountains Touring Route and an extension of the Tablelands Way.

Much of Bylong Valley Way is nestled between the Wollemi and Goulburn River National Parks. The Aboriginal and early European heritage of the region can easily be realised as you travel through the unspoiled countryside. The Parks are rich in animal and bird life caution must be taken in driving as wombats, wallabies and kangaroos abound. (Oops) Rare and endangered animals are also found in the parks and the flora varies in response to the diversity of the endless variety of habitat.
Bylong Valley Way has now been sealed completely. It was officially opened in April, 2009
Griffo and I stumbled upon this fabulous stretch of newly sealed road in march of 2009. The last time I came through in 2006 it had been partially sealed but there was still probably 30ks unsealed including a steep section that I’m told rises from about 120 mtrs to over 466 mtrs .
What a joy, fast sweeping corners no traffic to speak of as the area is generally pretty quiet. We came in from the Sandy Hollow end as we’d stayed in Merriwa the night before. By the way avoid staying at the pub in Merriwa $70.00 for the night in a damp shoebox with one chair and a wardrobe. Typical pub digs but way overpriced. We did however have some really nice lamb cutlets from the bistro so it wasn’t a total disaster.
